My mother-in-law has an old P100 that needs the battery replaced. It's got the old barrel style that is soldered on to the mobo. The battery reads, "3.6v 60mAh 3/V60R. How do you replace these? Is there some way to convert this type to a replaceable battery?

Look on the motherboard for a four pin connector marked Battery near the old battery. If it's there you're in luck and only have to go to Radio Shack and get a battery with a similar voltage with a built-on pigtail.
Be sure to cut off the old battery afterwards so it does'nt leak on the printed curcuits. |

That is a 3.6Volt NIcad battery. (I found one reference to it)
There is a reference to a part number. Part number 119116 from Jameco Electronics (jameco.com) 800-831-4242. (yes they do have them). You will have to resolder it back into the board. (twin point is the positive). Alternately you could do a home job using NImH batteries of the same dimension (or not) (3 of them) and binding them together (in series) to get 3.6V without the memory problems of Nicads. Good luck trying to find that battery at Cel Phone Shack,er I mean Radio Shack.I had the same problem, went to RS and they tried(and failed)to sell me a 3.6v lithium batt.and then tried to tell me that its OK to introduce a live lithium cell into a ni-cad rechargeable system. No way.
What I did was note which post was positive on old battery, removed it by carefully loosening the solder in order leave the posts intact and fastening a 3.6v nicad phone batt.to it and velcro-ig it to the side of the case.I didnt use the external batt.connector because I was unsure at the time which jumper I needed to short. You can go get a AA batt. holder at most comp. parts suppliers online fo around a buck. lynch |

Batteries Plus has all those types of batteries. It's up to you whether you want to solder or just use the external battery header.
