printer ejects a sheet at start-up

When I start up the computer, the printer puts a character on the top of the page and ejects the page. Sometimes it does it after the computer has beenl ruknning a couple of minutes. It prints OK when I call upon it to print. This is just annoying. This first began after I ran a firewall on the other PC which is networked to this PC having the printer.
I turned the firewall off after not being able to print from the networked printer. Thats when it started.

Windows XP - HP 932c printer
Linksys router
Windows 98

Is the printer connected USB or parallel?

Send a message via AIM to juicelooser
some printers, when turned on, print a quick test page to make sure things are working correctly.

I don't know what in XP can cause that, but in 98, the parallel port driver installed by MS Backup would cause that.

Try reinstalling the printer drivers and then make sure sharing is turned on.

I have installed new drivers for XP from th HP website.
XP won't let me install the old 98 drivers.
It still prints and ejects a sheet at start-up.
Its wasting paper.

The 98 driver needs to be installed on the 98 machine, then you need to add the network share as a port in 98, and it should print.
