Do any Optical PS/2 mice work on serial ports?
An out of state friend has an old, pre PS/2 computer running Win ME. They are tired of cleaning mice. Does anybody know if there is any Optical PS/2 mice that will work on a serial port?? (with an adaptor, of course...)

It shouldn't be any different than using a PS/2 to serial adapter on a standard PS/2 mouse that has the rolllerball. The optical part is self contained in the mouse and doesn't depend upon anything in the PC itself.

Haven'd had success with an adapter yet, but I don't think any PC powerful enough to run WinME has no PS/2 ports. If it's an AT board then look for the connections on the board, and all you need is the jack itself.

Hi Everybody
![]() Now that you mention it, yes, it's an old AT system... one of my old AMD K6-2 450Mhz units. (and I remember when it was Hot!) I mailed it out to her late last year, and was out there on vacation at Christmas time to finish setting it up. Even for the keyboard, I had to get a PS2 adaptor to hook it up. I know I had PS2 ball mice and trackballs hooked up to it with an adaptor, but didn't know if an optical mouse would work. TwoRails |

I currently have both my keyboard and mouse running through usb adapters into ps/2 ports. They run fine in windows, but when running dos and startup, I have probs.

Thanks everybody
![]() I'll think I'll just have her go to the local Best Buy and get a PS2 to serial adaptor and optical mouse and try it out. Best Buy has a "satisfaction" guarantee, so if it doesn't work, she can take it back.. TwoRails |

The best would be to get the back panel plate for PS/2, they're pretty cheap and I believe the board has PS/2. You should check that.

Thanks for the idea, RJ, but there is no back panel plate on this desktop case. The mobo, unfortuneately doesn't have PS/2 on it. I wish it did!
