Raid

I have an ASUS A7V8X MB, I want to set up 2 120 ata 133 hard drives in raid 1. My question is do I put one HD on the raid controller and the other on the regular IDE or both on the same ide cable connected to the raid controller?

To set up a raid array, both hard drives must be on the raid controller.

I thank you for the quick reply, the reason I ask is because of these instructions in the MB manual.
a) Connect one parallel ATA HDD to Pri-RAID_1 connector and one serial ATA HDD to either one of the two Serial ATA connectors using seperate parallel Ata or serial cables.

Problem here is I don't have any serial ata HD's I know both drives need to be set to master but will they work on same cable? Or did I just screw the pooch and really won't get raid from this MB without SATA drives?

I just read the whole manual - yes, it's vague. One place it says what you just did - you need SATA. Another place it says that raid 1 is supported by 2 PATA drives.

I'd try this - put a drive on the raid connector set to master - and do the same on the primary ATA133 connector. Note that if you have WD drives, master with no slave present is not the same as master with slave present. I'd try cable select and put the drives at the end of the cables, make sure you use the 80 wire cables with the blue end to the controller. After you do this, go into the raid setup in the bios and see if it will establish an array.

Again thank you for the fast reply and the helpful hints. I will be getting the drives this afternoon so hopefully this will work out after all.
