OK, I am building a computer and got a 60gb HD. Do I need to partition it at all (like 10GB for Windows and then the rest for everything else) or should I just have the whole thing as one drive. I just need someone opinions/suggestions on what to do. Thanks in advance for the input.

It all depends on preference. You may choose to put Windows and system files on a small partition and then all your programs and such on a different partition. It doesn't really affect performance or anything so it's up to you. I personally have a 20 GB hdd devoted to Windows and the OS files and my 80 gig partitioned for Music/Videos, etc. and Programs/Games.

I'm about the same as Fastfly. 8Gb XP partition with a little over 5Gb free. I have two other partitions. on a 60 Gb drive. 20Gb and 30Gb.

I like to partition... my own preference... I run 10GB for XP, 20GB for my games, 1GB for my documents, 8GB for programs, 30GB for MP3's, the balance of my 120GB drive is blank for video recording with my AIW.

Dont the programs write to the registry, which would be kept on the OS partition, so wouldnt lets say when you had to format either format the programs and os partition or backup your registry?

And then there's us weirdos that like to set a separate partition just for page file (virtual memory) with XP. Right after the OS partiton. REALLY speeds things up. Here's the why.
