external enclosure for dvd-ram???
Ok, here is the deal. I built a pc and currently have 2 Hard Drives, a cd burner, and a dvd burner. I have a standalone dvd recorder that records to dvd-ram. I want to add a dvd-ram drive to my pc so that I can access and edit video that I have recorded with the standalone. I really dont want to add an ata controller card and move my hard drives. I also like the disk to disk recording that i can perform with my current cd and dvd burners. So, I thought i could get a dvd-ram drive and put in in a external firewire enclosure. Something like this:

I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work and Firewire should be fast enough for video editing.
But tell me, does your mobo have a Firewire port? If not, then you're obviously going to have to add a PCI card anyway. |

My mobo doesnt have firewire, but I have already added a firewire pci card so I figured since its there I can use it for the dvd-rom. I think it will be easier doing it this way then getting back into the system and moving things around. Thanks for the reply. I didnt see any reason it wouldnt work either.
