hp lj 4050n

I have a hplj 4050n printer networked between 3 stations all running win98se 400mhz cpu's 256RAM running ms office, sbclient, and norton corporate. The problem I'm having is that one station heavily uses excel with linked files, when prompted to point and print gpf error message appears hpbff1.drv, after this happened I went to hp website:solutions changed driver pcl5 pcl6 and pscript didnt change functionality still getting error message, except with pscript now pscript.drv "close or Ignore" both are fatal closing application. hoping someone has fix before or can send me in right(another) direction. I" m a tech 3yrs experience 2 in break/fix A+ certified and mystified

How is it networked? Jet Direct in a hub or switch using TCP/IP? Have you checked for firmware updates for the Jet Direct? Have you considered upgrading the ram in the printer?

That should work fine with the PCL6 driver, I'd uuninstall the PCL5 and the Postscript driver (unless you need Postscript for something).

You might want to run system file checker on the box that's giving you problems.

Thanks glc for your tip the pcl6 worked after I uninstalled everything and then reinstall pcl6. I thought the problem was the jetdirect but it is installed on the network drivers only thanks again for putting me in the right direction.
