Appreciate some assistance.
Having a sound problem. An entry under Device Manager, Sound, Video and Game Controllers: ALS 120 MPU 401 Driver (WDM). Under its properties, it states the following: “This device cannot find any free IRQ resource to use (Code 12). If you want to use this device, you must disable…etc.” The problem started when a flagged Device Manager entry: Via Tech 3038 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller was updated and made functional. It is now OK, but the sound card entry went down the tubes!! Would like to have USB functionality as well as a ‘healthy’ sound card in Device Manager. The following is a listing of IRQs: IRQ 0 System timer OK IRQ 1 Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural Keyboard OK IRQ 2 Programmable interrupt controller OK IRQ 3 Communications Port (COM2) OK IRQ 4 Communications Port (COM1) OK IRQ 5 HSP56 MicroModem OK IRQ 5 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering OK IRQ 6 Standard Floppy Disk Controller OK IRQ 7 Printer Port (LPT1) OK IRQ 8 System CMOS/real time clock OK IRQ 9 ALI 3D Enh Sound PnP (WDM) OK IRQ 10 VIA Tech 3038 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller OK IRQ 10 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering OK IRQ 11 RAGE PRO TURBO AGP 2X OK IRQ 11 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering OK IRQ 12 PS/2 Compatible Mouse Port OK IRQ 13 Numeric data processor OK IRQ 14 VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Controller OK IRQ 14 Primary IDE controller (dual fifo) OK IRQ 15 VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Controller OK IRQ 15 Secondary IDE controller (dual fifo) OK Also a listing of Conflicts/Sharing: IRQ 5 HSP56 MicroModem IRQ 5 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering IRQ 10 VIA Tech 3038 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller IRQ 10 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering I/O Port 0x03F6-0x03F6 VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Controller I/O Port 0x03F6-0x03F6 Primary IDE controller (dual fifo) I/O Port 0x01F0-0x01F7 VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Controller I/O Port 0x01F0-0x01F7 Primary IDE controller (dual fifo) IRQ 11 RAGE PRO TURBO AGP 2X IRQ 11 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering I/O Port 0xE000-0xE00F VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Controller I/O Port 0xE000-0xE00F Primary IDE controller (dual fifo) IRQ 14 VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Controller IRQ 14 Primary IDE controller (dual fifo) IRQ 15 VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Controller IRQ 15 Secondary IDE controller (dual fifo) Memory Address 0xD4000000-0xD6FFFFFF VIA Tech 8598 CPU to AGP controller Memory Address 0xD4000000-0xD6FFFFFF RAGE PRO TURBO AGP 2X I/O Port 0x0376-0x0376 VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Controller I/O Port 0x0376-0x0376 Secondary IDE controller (dual fifo) I/O Port 0x0170-0x0177 VIA Bus Master PCI IDE Controller I/O Port 0x0170-0x0177 Secondary IDE controller (dual fifo) I/O Port 0xD000-0xDFFF VIA Tech 8598 CPU to AGP controller I/O Port 0xD000-0xDFFF RAGE PRO TURBO AGP 2X OS=Windows Millennium CPU=AMD K6-2/550 Mainboard=5VMX (VIA MVP3 ATX) Any ideas on how to resolve the problem? You could try opening your PC up and sticking the sound card in another PCI slot if there is one available, this will usually cure these gripes

Thanks for the reply.
It is an ISA card. Does that make a difference? |

Shouldn't do, although I missed the ISA bus
My first PC had a couple of ISA slots but from then on they were goneIf you just try putting it in another slot it might make a difference, it can't really do any harm put it like that Thanks, Jim |
