ultra-blue led quest
heheh ,
k i am for the first time soldering myself some leds to enlighten my beatyful drawing on my window.... the thing i was wondering... can i file the leds so i can work away the beam it gives? when i just use the normal ultra-brites they give a beam-like light..so it doesn't cover the whole drawing :s i read something about filing the led...can i hurt the led with this? and also ..how do i do it? cause i can imaging i'll end up with a led with some rough areas ....will this reduct the light?

You can file away a significant portion of led's especially the 5mm leds. I've done it myself, I just take my dremel and cut off the top with a cutting disk, then follow up with a sanding disk and maybe the buffing disk to smooth it out. It does produce a more diffused light after this.
Just make sure you leave a bit of space between the cut and the metal part the light comes from, becuase if you cut down into the part of the led where the workings are, your led won't like it. |
