Transfering from harddrive to harddrive...quick question

im transferring the files of my old harddrive to my new harddrive but they both are running a different operating system. My new one is running XP and my old one is running windows 98. if i copy the whole harddrive onto the new one, next time i boot will i have problems because i have 2 operating systems? or will the XP just negate the windows 98?

If you're going to transfer the files onto a separate partition, then you don't have to worry about anything. WinXP will be the main operating system for your computer and Win98 and all the other stuff will just be files as far as WinXP is concerned.

Why don't you just transfer you personal data from hard drive to hard drive? Why do you want to transfer everything?

It depends upon how exactly U are thinking of copying the old HD to the new.. If your just going to install it as a second drive to the current system and just drag and drop or copy and paste the folders and files U want over onto the new HD you'll be fine. There is no real point in copying the windows directory over from the old to the new anyways. I would just copy over the folders with the documents and pictures and such that I wanted to save, and I would keep that old HD as a backup for those pictures and documents. Many of your actual programs will need reinstalled anyways to run on WinXP so that is why I would do it this way...
