And what do you mean by complete list? The list of basic parts used or do you want the whole system spec'd out for you? You'll have to decide if you want an Intel or AMD system. Again, neither is better than the other...it just comes down to personal preference. For my own systems, I go with Intel...but I will build whatever the customer wants...AMD or Intel...it's up to them. Cricket

Ok, here is what I came up with while searching through newegg! If you guys could please let me know if this sounds like a good usefull system. Also, do you know if most of this comes with warrenties, and, what do u "think" the total will be around adding on shipping and such?
Please let me know if I should change anything, or anything along those lines (if I am missin ANYTHING needed to complete this system). Change that Samsung CD-RW to a Lite-On. Samsung drives are unreliable.
Change the modem to a USR 2977. It's a hardware controller modem, not a troublesome winmodem. What brand power supply comes with that case? Rest of the parts look fine. Cricket

I edited it Cricket....better? Also, how much do u think shipping and additional costs would be? And is there anything I am missing? With all that I am set to run? Not missin any cables, or anything? And all that is good, and worth the buy?

I'm feeling lazy right now, so does that motherboard have onboard sound? If so, I would trade the card in and buy speakers instead - I've heard onboard sound these days is comparable to a nice card, plus it will shave $70.
Shipping of course will vary by vendor. If you have time you can check to see if they have special deals. Zipzoomfly.com (formerly googlegear.com) had free 2-day shipping, which was a major factor when I chose them. One last tidbit, try to order most if not all your parts from the same place. It will save you a bundle on shipping. As for cables, retail boxes will typically include them (IDE ribbon and SATA for HD, audio for CD). Retail motherboard will cover your cable needs if all your drives are OEM. If you order retail drives, you'll just have extra cabling (which isn't a bad thing, just costs more). Just decide what's important. Good luck! |

Alright, well all of that stuff is from newegg.com. So...I should be set. However, how does the shipping work, and all of that looks like it is set with all the needed stuff? Like u said Dark, "if it is retail and all, u should be set"...does it look as if though I ordered all that now, and when I got it, I would be able to set it up, and have everything needed to get it going?

Was wondering, if you guys could put some specs together that"u" would prefer, that cost about what the specs I put did. Or u can add on to mine, I jus want to see if what I picked is good, and the rights picks, and if I got everything needed.
Also, if someone could do up one or two good Intel (P4) specs, that are similar to the AMD system that would be great also. Last edited by JayBee; 10-29-2003 at 10:30 PM. |

Wow, wwd creates yet another masterpiece, despite being crippled for life by a wayward car (just kidding man, that wreck stunk). The 2.8C, Geil DDR, Asus board and 9800 Pro will all play very nice together for a gaming box.
One thing, what about an OS? I knew I was forgetting something before, you need the software to run all that great hardware, and I haven't seen it included in the lists lately. It will set you back another $100 if you get XP Pro. |

Well....intel or AMD? Thats my big decision. I don't know which to pick. I have never had an AMD, just 2 Intels...I don't know if I wanna make a move, and try AMD, or stick with the Intel P4's....?
Oh, and if I were to get one of those last specs, I would have to narrow the price down a bit, kinda close to the 800-850 grand total. And I think I already have XP Home somewhere around here.. |

If all else fails, flip a coin. They really are very similar, don't worry about it. Since you're going high end at the moment, I think the Intel 2.6C is a good buy. Last night newegg had a deal where it was cheaper than a 2.4! But I'm biased toward Intel, so don't take my word for it.
Good that you have XP Home. Does anyone know if the license can jump machines, just as long as it is only working on one of them? Otherwise, you'll probably have to buy another license, which isn't a big deal. |

Alright cool thanks. Well if I go with the 2.6 I am going to have to lower some of the other stuff. Like just a ATi 9600 Pro 128, instead of Sapphire, and all that. I would just havew to knock off some mula!

I like the idea of this system. However, a change in the mobo...to the ASUS like people were saying. Also some other changes. I think I like the idea of being able to over clock in the future

I went all through newegg again with the replys I had recivied in this thread, and came up with THIS system... Again, if I may ask, is there anything that I am missing, to where I will NOT be able to have everything working once built? To me, everything sounds, and looks as if though it is if not the best, not far from the best. Good system? Oh, and oes it look as if though everything I got here has got a warrenty, if not, which piece doesn't?

Ahh, the floppy ($10) can be spared. But, everything looks good? To me that system looks better than the AMD...but that could be just me...anyone elses thoughts on that system?
Oh, and the stuff there.....is it able to be OC'ed? Not that I have ever OC'ed, but would probably try if I were to get this pc. |

If you want to save money forget about Intel.
there is +/- to both, but AMD will save you money OK now that that is over you need to look for a Socket-A motherboard. I can't stress enough on the MSI K7N2-DELTA series mobo's I love them (I have built 7 of them) Then you want a CPU I like the Athalon XP 2500+ good bang for the buck. this mobo has dual channel so buy your DDR in pairs if you want to take advantage of this. P.S. PNY mem. dont like this board , use Kingston in my machine I use 2-1Gig sticks of 2700 that may be spendy but you can get 2-256 sticks cheap to start with. the hard drive if your new go with Maxtor I like them , 8mb. buffer if you can video card I like the GeForce FX 5600 256mb AGP card sky's the limit splurge here sound card I like the Creative sound blaster 5.1 CD rom, Floppy, Motem GOOD Power supply 300w. Min. (Antec) the bigger the case the better down the road , you'll wish you had the extra room for all the extra crap you will want Remember "The Golden Rule" Keep your pecker clocked hot and your CPU/GPU clocked cool MP has spoken |
