ASUS A7N266-VM SE - Can't change CPU speed??
My A7N266-VM SE will not go past a 1700+ CPU.
The CPU which is in the machine is a 2500+ Barton. I can't see anywhere in the BIOS to change the CPU speed. It says you can do it via jumpers but they are both set at default 133MHz. Tried changing them anyway and no luck. Can anyone help me? |

That motherboard doesn't support the Barton CPU's.

Right, I have now put in a 2600+ AMD. Its showing as a 2000+ though and I don't know how to change it!!
Someone please help!! |

Change the FSB to 133MHz. Looks like it's at 100MHz right now.

It was on 133 already but had a play anyway. Anything I do it still shows as a 2000+.
Any ideas? |

BIOS version is 1006.
This is doing my head in! Anymore ideas m8? Really appreciate everything so far! |

There are two different 2600+ Thoroughbred Athlons...one is a 133MHz FSB and the other is a 166MHz FSB...which one do you have? Sounds like you have the 166MHz FSB model and that motherboard doesn't support the 166MHz FSB models.

Look on the die...the markings will tell you if it's a 133MHz or 166MHz processor. If the last letter in the CPU identification markings is a "C", it's a 133MHz/266MHz processor. If it has a "D", it's a 166MHz/333MHz processor.

Thanks for all your help guys. It was a 166Mhz processor.
I have now ordered a 2400+ and hopefully that will work fine. I will let you know if I have any problems. Thanks again! |

unlock the cpu's locked multiplier factor and it woulda worked. that is, if you can change the multiplier in the bios w/ that motherboard...
