SATA Vs RAID

Hi All,
Just read with interest that a RAID configuration can improve HD activity by 59%. Is this true?. I have 2 identical 80 Gig HD and was wondering if this setup would be benifical to me. The other option is to purchase a SATA HD which my mobo supports but if RAID is superior!.

Anyway another issue is that my mobo doesn't have RAID support but I believe there are RAID cards you can purchase that fit into a PCI slot. Would this affect how RAID works.

Any input would be appreciated,
Thanks

serial ata is the way to go but if you allready have to 80 gig run them on a raid configuration and see what you think it will be cheaper
