USB mouse & keyboard problem.
I've had my PC a bit over a year now & just recently (like 2-3 weeks) my USB keyboard and mouse have been acting real strange. At first I thought my ports were just dusty so I clearn them a bit but the problem still remains. Pretty much everyday I get "USB device not recongized" and my keyboard and mouse completely freeze up. I usually just unplug them but even that doesn't work all the time.
I have 6 USB ports: 2 on the front of my tower, 2 on the back and 2 on my keyboard. I don't know what is wrong, I'm thinking maybe I need a USB driver (if there is such a thing) update, but I have no idea where to get it from. It's just rather odd how all my ports mess up at one time, I really am clueless on what to do. I don't have any viruses on my PC and I just reformatted a month or 2 ago. If you need my system spec's i'll leave 'em at the end of this, thanks. System: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Computer: AMD Athlon XP 1600+, 1.39Ghz, 512 MB of RAM. |

Any reason you can't use the PS/2 adapters for the mouse and keyboard? You can't use the PS/2 ports for anything else, might as well use them and free up your USB ports for USB-only devices.

Guess so.. I just don't got the money to spend on computer devices right now.. It's been pretty bad today, my mouse is 90x worse then my keyboard.
But if it's my USB ports, what should I do? I just tried uninstalling my mouse but the problem is just as bad. Funny as I type this I can hear the beeping comin from my headphones every 5-10 seconds....wow, I really fell like shooting my PC right now heh. |

Are you saying that your keyboard and mouse are USB-only devices and did not come with USB-to-PS/2 adapters?

Actually no, cause it's a rental :/ but I hear they are cheap so i'll pick one up sometime this week, probably around Friday or Saturday
Oddly enough it's been perfect today, yesterday was absolutely horrid, words can't even explain my anger on Starcraft Brood Wars, like what a time it choose to mess up eh? |
