Angry Fire cd-rom not recognized in windows

Does anyone has any idea why my 58x cd-rom drive is recognized in the startup screen and bios but does not show up in my computer folder in windows xp, the drive is not recognized at all but the light is green whenever I insert a cd, what could be the problem
mobo asus p4g8x
58x cd-rom drive
tdk 48xx24x16 burner
ive tried swithching from master to slave or slave to master
but i still have the problem

which IDE cable and which position do you have it on and how is it jumpered? I always put the CD in master position of Sec IDE and set jumpers to Master or Cable Select. If yours is correct, check in Device Mgr and see if the CD rom is listed. If it is, click on it, remove it and reboot the machine. It will be recognized again and should be seen in My Computer. If it's not listed, replace the cable.

Is the burner recognized and seen in My Computer? Have you installed or uninstalled any CD burning software recently?

Try a diiferent drive - try your drive in a different computer. It may be defective.
