tape drives?
how well do tape drives work? is it worth the price or should you just get another hdd? for the prices ive seen i would rather just get another hdd with 120gb or so for 100bucks instead of shelling out 200 or more for a drive and some tapes. anyone know of some better prices on tape backups or suggetions on weather its better to just get another hdd or not?

tapes give versatility that an extra harddrive can't... you can have hundreds of tapes in a large rotation, as opposed to 1 or 2 hard drives. also, when you move around with a tape, you are way less likely to damage it than a hard drive.
what are you planning on backing up? a business or just your personal files?

For personal backups in the event of a hard drive failure... a second drive is the way to go... if you're talking about a business with critical data, tapes are the way to go where you can keep a copy off site.

Tapes also get very costly when you have a lot of data to back up.

I use an external hdd (20GB, usb 2.0) to back up my comp. Very quick, and easily portable if it's needed.

its for home use. i noticed the post about the hdd at bestbuy so im gunna go check those out. it would be way cheaper to go that way than getting a tape drive. i always wanted one though becouse of the vercitility and amount of space on one tape. i also noticed that with a cheaper tape drive the tapes are more expensive and vise versa
