Question IDE vs SATA

Which one is better? IDE or SATA? I have no idea and I really want to know the answer.

sata is faster at 150mb/s so i guess if you want faster than sata is better. the connection is also much smaller, so it gets rid of those horrid ribbon cables for your hd's. but i have not heard if it is more effective in any way. if speed is an issue, go with sata

No.. not at all... I've done a few SATA systems now and they are almost completely silent.

I've been impressed with my SATA. As HAL said, they run extremely quietly. The serial cables are great for helping reduce the clutter on the inside of your case, which helps with increasing the airflow as well.

Can you use SATA drives with normal IDE drives in the same machine at the same time?

Sure. SATA drives will be on the SATA controller and the PATA drives will be on the normal IDE/PATA controllers.

Serial ATA @ 150mb/s versus 133mb/s. In 2003 look for 300mb/s SATA HD.

Better have some faster pci bus to handle all that.

I don't believe SATA goes thru the PCI buss.

I believe that the only SATA that doesn't go through the PCI bus at the present time is the SATA in the ICH5 on the Intel 865/875 chipsets. To achieve 300 on SATA, you will need one of 2 things - SATA integrated into the chipset (like the Intel ICH) or a PCI-X bus.

Great mobo would be the ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe, it has integrated SATA with the ICH5 Intel 875 Chipset
