Having trouble getting my SATA Raptor to get recognized

If you haven't done so already:
go to device manager and right click the WD Raptor, click properties and check to see if: "This Device is Enabled" And if it says this device is working properly. If the drive is not enabled--it won't show up under my computer, but will still show in device manager. Just a Thought. |

I am now able to use the raptor under my original windows setup.
I am just not able to install a fresh copy of XP on it. This is the driver files for my mobo. I downloaded the Promise SATA378 Driver V1.00.0.26 (ATA Mode) and put it on the F6 disk. Is this the correct file to be downloading? If so, it does not work on my system. |

Review your bios settings carefully - I don't know the particulars of that motherboard, but if you are using just one SATA drive, it seems to me that RAID needs to be disabled but the SATA controller needs to be enabled. That's a new board - and history shows that it's usually best to update your bios to the latest available.

Thanks for the help,
I upgraded the BIOS. But still having problems with win Xp installation recognizing the drive. One day I will figure this out. |

I`ve been able to install SATA drives by copying the SATA driver files from the CD furnished with the MOBO to a floppy. When installation begins, press F6 and let the installation continue. It appears as if pressing F6 doesn`t work but you will eventually come to a screen that prompts you to press "s" to load RAID or third party driver files (something along those lines) and then put the floppy in. After this installation should continue normally.
I don`t know what board you are using but on the ASUS A7N8X, the SATA jumper must be enabled and the drive connected to the primary channel. A RAID bios will appear after post but there is no need to go into the RAID bios and enable any RAID configuration if you are using a single drive. Make sure the boot device is SATA and if SATA isn`t a choice make it SCSI. A good boot order is 1-CDROM 2-floppy- 3-HDD (SATA,SCSI,IDE) |

Thanks for the help, I was able to finally install XP on the SATA drive. I ended up hooking up to raid controller, but running the controller in IDE mode.
I really don't know how I figured it out, but I am glad it finall works |
