Pissed side case fan ... good idea or bad idea + cooling question?

I am using the Antec 1080 Case

There is a place on the side for a case fan.
is it a good idea to use it or not?

and what are good temperatures for:
system
cpu
what is the lowest degree C someone can get for an athlon 2500+ using air cooling?

I have a side case fan, i get lower temps when using it. cpu temps could run from 30C to 60C depending on type and room temperature. My Pentium 4 runs at 43C usually and gets up to 55-57C after hours of heavy load. My system temp is usually around 30-35C.

oh thats cool

so do you have the side fan blowing air INSIDE the case, or is it blowing the air OUTSIDE ?

That's really up to you. If you install a fan there your case temps will probably go down, but case noise will go up.

With air cooling? Room temperature would be the lowest a CPU could get with just air cooling (of course, the computer would be off).

It should blow into the case, the rear fans pull a vacuum in the case, and having fans in the side and rear really help the air to flow through the case. i saw decent temp drops with just taking out one of my drive bay covers, as the rear fans were pulling vacuum in the case, and had no supply of good clean air from the outside. So adding a fan that pushes it in from the side or front really help flow. Let us know your number when you get it done.

thanks a lot for your help.
I read this a little too late.

I already removed the side case fan that came with antec 1080 case and put it over the hard drives.

I will buy another good fan like vantec stealth and use that for side blowing air inside the case.

now i am wondering, will a lot of dust come in because of that?
antec has a fliter for the front fans, but there is no filter for the side case fan.

The CPU? Colder than room temperature? I don't think so since the CPU will be generating heat (if the computer is on). To get the CPU colder than room temperature (while it's running) would require liquid nitrogen, chilled water cooling or maybe a Peltier could get it to run cooler than room temperature...but not with air cooling.

oh ok.
so if my room temperature is 30C, then my system cant get 24C or 25C with air cooling?

right now my room is pretty warm.

so does that means that my room temperature can be 31C, and the comp system temperature can be 29C, using air cooling?

Well from personal experience and from what i think makes sense, having a volume of air flowing is a better cooler than a vacuum. As for the dust issue, there will be some, but i haven't had too much more than normal if any. In the vacuum condition i noticed that there was a ton around the edges. IMO

With air cooling one can expect the case temp to run approx.
10f higher than room temperature.
CPU temps will run in accordance with case temp.
If room temp is high, the same passes to case and cpu.
If a way could be devised to run cold air into case, all temps would drop!
I have found regardless of heatsinks, fans, etc.,
room temperature or air supply to case is the most crucial element in cooling computers.
