Drive Image 5.1 + IDE + Sata

My new motherboard will support sata. To begin with, I will be just using the ide connections. I always use Drive Image to do a disk to disk clone for backups. Later on I will put 2 identical sata drives onto the sata ports (NO RAID). I then would like to use Drive Image to do a disk to disk copy from my ide C drive onto the sata drive. I will pull the ide drives off the machine and put away. I hope then that my sata drive is my new C drive and can boot up to it after changes in the bios. Then I hope to be able to clone my other sata drive like I did in the past.

Now after all that, can this be done? Is it possible Drive Image can't read sata drives? I was just wondering if anybody else has tried this. I gone to a few forums looking around, but couldn't come up with my situation. Almost most of these topics were dealing with raid, which I don't want any part of.

Thank You Bob H.

The jury is still out on this one. It looks like if you have the ICH5, it should work, but if it's ICH5R or a 3rd party SATA chip (Promise, Sil, etc.), you may have problems.

I read the link and I can see it's sort of up in the air. Although I do have some hope because they were talking mostly about doing raid. I do have the ICH5R, which is not good news, maybe.

Thank You Bob H.
