Cant Install Mouse, no place to put it, what to do?
I have an old computer im restoring for a person who is disabled. It has no round port to plug in the ps 2 mouse. I have an adapter to plug into another port that is plugged into the motherboard that shows it is com2 on the board. I cant seam to get it to work. What can I do? I have 2 other serial ports, one for a printer and another for something else. Its an VXPRO Motherboard, 32 mb 72 pin sim, win95, pentium mmx 166mhz. There is no place to put in a ps2 port on the case either.

PS/2 to serial adapters generally don't work unless the adapter came with the mouse. You need a true serial mouse or a PS/2 mouse that comes with a serial adapter. You also need to make sure the com ports are enabled in the bios.
The printer port is a parallel port (LPT1), not a serial port. |

mouse trouble I/O conflict 2f8
When I first started working with the thing and turned it own the startup would show a conflict error saying conflict I/O 2F8 and would start in safe mode after I pressed F1. I went into CMOS and changed the setting to com3/3FB and left com1/3f8 alone and then restarted and it started up fine but still couldnt install the mouse. I tried to then install the mouse on the printer port but I dont really know what im doing to do that. I have figured out how to run all the comands with a keyboard but its sure a pain in the ass and slow. What can I do?

No, you cannot install the mouse on the printer port.
You said that the port you are using is connected to the Com2 header on the motherboard? Remove the cable from the Com1 header and move the cable you are using over to the Com1 header. Go into the bios, set the first port to Com1/3F8 and disable the second port. The 2F8 conflict is probably due to an internal ISA jumpered modem. |
