Just found a great deal on memory at Upgradeplanet.com. They have 256Meg of PC133 RAM for $72.00 -- but they say it will only work for specific chipsets -- including the AMD 751 Irongate. My wife's computer (my old system) has the Irongate 750 chipset. Is there that big a difference?

There's practically nil..I think that on of the 2 has the Via 686 southbridge...the other the 756 Amd southbridge, so there is no difference between the 2 really. Now the 760 is the new chipset though. I'm assuming the memory will work fine with your comp though.

That's what I figured. What I'm wondering is how in the world can RAM be for specific chipsets??? This one happens to be for the VIA KT-133, KX-133, Apollo 133A and AMD 751 Irongate. That's almost silly.

Well athlon chipsets and boards were in the past very picky about ram, especially some of the first generation boards. Some newer boards still are, like the Asus A7V. What makes this ram you're buying so special I don't know..but it must meet Amd's requirements so that's probably why it's sold as compatible with those chipsets. Don't know if it would work in Intel chipset boards or not...guess you'd have to try to find out
