Dual Channel DDR

Hey all,

Friend and I had a conversation at work and the subject was Dual Channel DDR support. He said that even if your motherboard supports Dual Channel DDR, doesn't mean your CPU will. If the motherboard supports Dual Channel DDR and your CPU doesn't, that means that Dual Channel DDR will not be in effect right?

Does the P4 800Mhz with hyper threading technology support Dual Channel DDR?

TIA.

as long as your motherboard supports it and you have two sticks it will work
don't confuse hyperthreading with ddr.

yes that board does support it.

Dual DDR is controlled on the motherboard by the chipset, not the CPU.

The chipset is fully responsible for what hardware your motherboard will support now and in the future. It controls everything. If your motherboard won't support ATA-100, AGP 4x, etc. blame the chipset.

ooooh sweet, I found the right place, here in P-town (Pueblo Colorado)
I cannot get any straight answers about this duel channel stuff

Now I have the MSI K7N2 Delta main board 400 fsb edition w/DDR duel channel

I have 1 chip of DDR400 512 MB 3200 (32*8) (which I know it does not make since i am thinkin the stickers may be incorrect but my comp sees 511 MB of mem

Anyhow..... my question is, is my chip duel channel capable so that I just need one more of the exact same or do I need two new chips that are specially duel channel?

or will any two of the same chips of memory work with duel channel??

also I have the AMD xp3200/400fsb if it matters...
please email me at bubbasteve8@comcast.net
or just post back here

TY

My understanding of Dual Channel DDR is that you need two chips of identical RAM. They do not have to be anything special, but they must be completely identical.

All you need are two sticks with identical specs (yes, the brands have to be the same).

Just two of the exact same sticks of ram. They dont have to say any thing special. They can be just like ram in non-dual channel mobos.
