Get a 52x32x52 Lite On CD-RW. THe software is what can mess up things, not the hardware, unless the hardware of course fails.

Send a message via AIM to Joeberg
LiteON's and Plextors are good brands to choose from when buying a CDRW... The one Imbest suggested looks fine to me...

The Lite-On mentioned is a great drive and is on sale at Newegg. com and it comes with Nero Burning software the best of the burning software.

CompUSA = Cheap Overpriced Drive without a brand anme you can find.
First thing is to check the IDE Controller in the Device Manager to make sure the drive is working in DMA mode. If it is then you have a failed drive as this is one of the things you will see with a failed drive.
CompUSA is for Retail Hard Drives (Rebate Only), Keyboards, and Mice. Everything else they sell is over-priced or questionable quality.
If the drive is not over a year old then take it back to them.
