8mb buffer or 2mb?
hi guys.
i'm looking to get my friend another hard drive. he has a dell dimension 4400 with 40 gigs. i'm wondering if has raid, and how to find out whether it has a 2mb or 8mb buffer, because i'm thinking if i get him a 8mb one, it will run at 2mb if his other hdd is 2mb. thank you dswissmiss edit: ok, i just realized IDE interface can have 2 drives, but i'm still unsure of the buffer question Last edited by Dswissmiss; 12-23-2003 at 10:46 PM. |

They will each run at rated speeds and the 8mb will process faster.

The buffer is nothing more than a memory chip where the data transfer goes from being a mechanical device (spinning disk) to a purly electronic device or vise versa.
