Soyo Dragon (AMD Socket-A) wont work.
I got this computer..... I have basic components sitting out of case, trying to get it to POST but it wont do it. I get a beep, sometimes 2 beeps (one beep intermittent, but always one long beep), then it shuts down (fans stop spinning, still no display). I have tired EVERYTHING that I have seen in these forums. Ive even posted a thread about it before, difference between then and now, Im using a "good" speaker.
I even hooked up a PII just to have a computer to use while getting the Soyo working. PII works fine!!! PII cost me about $100 to buy; cheap Ebay parts, so I didnt think it was going to work but it does!! BTW the case this PII is in is the one with the bad speaker!! 300W ATX PSU - Tried using a working 400W as a check SY-K7V Dragon Plus! 1.333 AMD CPU OEM - 266mhzFSB PCI Video Card - working video card 1x256 2100 DDR (I think Kingston-bought it off Ebay) Big A$$ Heatsink/Fan |

You sure that heatsink is installed properly? If it's just a little off, the CPU will overheat and the system will shut down.
What about the video card and RAM...what brand and models are you using? I don't know what it is about the SOYO Dragon motherboard series, but I've noticed a lot of people have trouble getting those things going. Cricket

its the cooling fan you are using, you need to use another fan and get into the bios and disable fan-off control

I have a Soyo Dragon I've been using for almost two years. When it boots properly you get one short beep and then two more short beeps.Make sure you have the cpu fan plugged into the cpu fan header on the motherboard. If you have it plugged in somewhere else it won't detect a cpu fan and shut down. The Soyo Dragon is a good board with excellent reviews but that doesn't mean you don't have a bad one.

Hmmm....... CPU fan is the anonymous soultion I guess. I'll check it real quick.
I doubt the board is bad after all it IS giving beeps. |

I have had this problem before, the CPU fan would set off the Fan off Control, try using insert to access the bios

RE: try using insert to access the bios
Thank you ZYFER, I tried that and it did something DIFFERENT, but I couldnt access BIOS. What happened instead was I hit Insert, fans kept spinning, and there was a beep every 2-3 secs, over and over again. |

Update: I did the same thing as above, I let it beep 20 times before I shut it off.
Basically, BIOS is trying to access my hardware and found a problem somewhere. And a solution was shutting down system. But when I hit Insert, system didnt shut down, it kept going letting out a beep every 3 secs. There is no display (dont know why yet - its a good video card), so I cant tell if Im in BIOS or not. If I wasnt, am I basically telling the CPU to keep going regardless of POST or not?? Did Insert interrupt the CPU? Regardless, obviously I disabled FOC, why the beeping? And why no POST? |

FOC is in the bios and without getting in it you can not disable that. odd problem indeed though, did you check the ram and cpu to make sure they worked? maybe you have a friend with a AMD or ddr system?

I knew you were going to ask about RAM, and I mentioned already I bought it off Ebay. If I knew then what I know now.......... I think I need to make a trip to the store. See, I took the RAM out, and it did the exact same problem.

but how do you know the ram is any good, just cause you got it from Ebay doesn't mean it works. and if you took it out and do get the same problem then something is fishy with the ram

well I know Kingston ram is compatiable with that board, so if you can, see if a friend has a system to test it out
