Boom AMD 64 Overclocking

I was planning on building a shuttle pc but i read an article that the AMD 64 and 64 FX-51 were the best processors for gaming so i am building a 64 system. The socket is socket 754. Since they are clocked only at 2-2.2 GHz i am wanting to overclock. Cooling is a problem. I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on cpu fans and heatsinks i could use. I plan to overclock to at least 2.4 GHz. I am getting a 64 3200+.

the AMD 64 is still too new. very few people have it and even fewer have overclocked it! about the only thing i can tell you is either wait till someone else tries it or you yourdelf just try it and see what happens! good luck!

Why would you want to overclock something that fast? Nowadays all overclocking does is giving bragging rights.

You won't see a difference other than in benchmarks of ypu oc it. I'd wait out on the Idea of getting the Athlon 64 chip untill a new revision comes along... (Change in scoket, cahnge in the type of RAM, etc.)

I am building a gaming machine and the benchmarks are important in gaming. I want to overclock because the 64 3200+ is nothing (in clock speeds) compared to the new Prescott or the P4EE running and 3.2 GHz and more. I wanna overclock to get the max performance out of my system. Nothing much in 64 mobos will change soon except the RAM socket and i have that covered. I know it will be faster sooner than later and i am considering a different mobo that will support the upcoming 3600+ all the way to the 4600+ which will be released in August.

See this thread:

The Graphics card make more of a difference in gaming
Anyways, back to the original question: It seems right now the best cooling solution for the 64 is the retail HS/F...

a CPU is important in a benchmark contest. Why? Because now benchmark programs are having CPU test. Crazy isn't it?
