Dvd-rom

Hi All, jsut need to know something. I'm takeing out a dvd-rom from my HP system and installing it into a different system I'm building. My question is do I need to copy all the drivers from my HP to use in new system or is all that in the windows xp OS?Or should I check the manf. web site to see if they have new drivers?

If it's a standard EIDE device, then you only need the DVD software, no drivers necessary.

Take it out and see if there is a Manufactures name and Model numbers. Post back here with that info.

If it plugs in to the same type of cable as the hard drive, then it's a standard EIDE device, and should work just fine in your new system.
You are going to have to get DVD software for it, something like WinDVD or PowerDVD (there are other free ones too).

Yeah my windows xp came with a trail ver. of win dvd. And it does use the same cable as HD. The only time I used it I just had windows media player run it.Someone said I can use it to play my games on never tried it tho...lol.Seems like it would be slower than a cd-rw drve. Thanks for the help.

Most DVD drives are at least 32x, and probably 40x when reading ordinary data CD's, so speed isn't an issue, considering that the game CD probably only will run at 12x or so.
