formatting hard disk drive

when iam at the C: prompt. i type in C: s/u and that formates my disk drive. can anyone post some good web pages on reformatting hard disk drive. i just want to know if there are other ways to refomate the disk drive.

what is the procedure to formate a new disk drive?

Now that I'm using XP I just do it with the XP CD if it is a new install. If I add a drive I also do it with XP's disk management. If I was going to do a WIN98 PC I would boot with a WIN98 boot disk and enter the format command from the A prompt.

A: Format C:/S

Format C and lay down system files.
