Unhappy cdrw gone belly up?

i was bringing my dads old pc home [actually, i'm borrowing him one of my old ones] and it tipped over in the back of the suv.
when i tried to boot up, the hdd was not showing as connected on the promise card. [ides are burned out from a surge]
found the cable crooked and replugged it in on the card.
lite-on 24x cdrw light is on all the time. [bad sign, i know]
swapped cable positions on the card and the hdd moved but still no cdrw.
swapped cables between the cdrw and hdd, still no cdrw.
hdd always worked during these tests.
i think it's time for possible warr or just sh*t can if too old.

am i missing anything, ray.

something locked up and pcmech wouldn't work!
opened other websites with another browser window, all worked except pcmech..
someone please delete the earlier threads.

Chances are that it's shot. There are 3 things you can do:
1) See if it's under warranty and send it back if it is.
2) If it's not under warranty, then you can try taking it apart and re-aligning the gears.
3) If all else fails, you'll probably need to buy a new one.

Question

realign the gears??? any particular info as to what you think may have happened and what to look for?

also, with the cdrw removed, i tried the pin trick on the release and pulled the tray open. i pushed it shut and it seemed normal as far as the tray gears appeared?

Thumbs down

i also tried to restart the pc with the cdrw plugged in. the light came on and blinked several times and went off.

looked better this time but neither the bios or windows see it.

still think it's an alignment problem or??

If it's not even seen by the BIOS, I'd say it's shot.

(Make sure you try another IDE cable just to make sure in the instance that it's the cable that went bad, and not the drive.)
