gaznaii, you'd be better off starting a new thread.
Anyway, the answer is 1fps, i.e. no performance difference. It will work 100% fine on a AGP4x mobo.
What mobo is it anyway?

Hi
thank you, means that I didn't make a big mistake when I chose the parts of my new computer.

my mobo is ASUS P4B533-X, with Intel chipset 486E
On the motherboard card it supports up to 800MHz CPU bus, and up to 3.04MHz CPU frequency, 400MHz DDRam, and hyper-threading technology.
Is that a good motherboard.

But my CPU dosen't support hyper-threading technology, it is PIV (2.8,1M,533) prescott.

I want to know my faults in the choice of my hardware parts.
Since when I was buying my computer, I didn't accept what the dealer set to me, I chose every part myself.

The details of my computer is:
ASUS P4B533-X, Intel chipset 486E
PIV 2.8, 1M, 533
XFX: NIVADA GeForce 4000FX, 128MB DDR, 8x AGP
512 MB DDR PC3200
80GB HDD 7200rpm
Samsung CDR 52x
17" normal monitor SyncMaster
good quality prepheral devices

this computer costed me 590$

As others have reported, I cannot view the WinZip file---it just says it's an invalid archive, and won't open. Tried with WinZip 8 and 9 (which is the newest), no change. It's not accessible as an XLS or TXT file, either, since people suggested that... I'd love to look over the file, though! Has any workaround been discovered yet? ...Otherwise, I can take the time to try tweaking with WinZip settings, but seems this file's messed somehow.

Ok... now, I don't care about price...... if I wanted to get the best board that money can buy, what would it be? I'm an extreme gamer and also do major multimedia crap. I'm also looking for something that I can OC the heck out of.

You'd be better off starting a new thread (read the FAQ). Post your parts, and we can sort you out. Abit generally make amazing boards for overclocking, but for reliablity you can't beat Asus.

Opening Zip File

The zip file is a standard 8.1 zip archive. If you can't open it, try using winrar.

On a side note, XP has built-in zip file support.

Hey Force, I get an "invalid or corrupted .zip file" message when I try to open any of the .zip files in this thread. Wonder if it has anything to do with SP2?

Do you try to open them right off the bat, or do you save the file, then open?

I'm wondering if in SP2 it tries to open the file immediately before it finishes downloading.

Was this file made with WinRAR, though? I can't think of any other explanation why people are having problems opening it with WinZip, but I've just opened it with WinRAR.

Strangely, upon opening it in WinRAR, there was a file with no extension within the zip file, also called "motherboards rev3"--again, with no extension. Upon opening this file, the XLS file is visible. Maybe try re-zipping it, FF...? What settings did you zip it under, if you used WinZip?

No, it was not made with winrar. It was made with winzip 8.1, nothing special. I'm puzzled as to why a number of people are having problems.

I have re-zipped and attached it.
Attached Files
File Type: zip motherboards rev3(2).zip (7.9 KB, 564 views)

Very weird---at least for me, same result as before. ::shrugs:: But now that I've seen it ((as stated, I used WinRAR as was suggested)), FF, I guess my only feedback, other than it being VERY cool, would be to maybe include some of the lesser motherboard manufacturers in it...? I've got $200 to grab a motherboard, CPU, and memory, and knowing where boards by Chaintech, Foxxcon, Biostar, DFI, Shuttle, Jetway, Asrock, etc. rate would be handy. Obviously, I don't think most of these are worth anyone's time for a normal system, but for someone like me, who only has the option of spending the barest minimum of money for a system, it would certainly be very helpful.

But yes, GREAT chart, very helpful, and it has everything right there!

I don't understand it Force, but I still get "the folder is invalid or corrupted". I have two other .zip files on my desktop that unzip just fine.

ChromWolf, I've listed the more popular and "safe" boards to build with. However, I have not had a chance to go through the forums and update it since its last posting.

PR, I'm as puzzled as you are. These problems only seemed to be happening a little while after the release of XP SP2. You're not running it, are you?

FF, yes I am. Changed all my machines over last weekend. Haven't had any issues. I'm able to open other zip files just not this one. Weird.

My new AMD build will use the AMD Athlon 64 3400+ 754 socket.

I don't see a 754 socket mb on your list.

I am considering the Abit K8T800 KV8 Pro or
The Asus K8VS-E Deluxe.

My Antec case provides front panel connections for audio, two usb's and a firewire.

Do these mbo's support front panel support?

What may be some of the "con's with either?

I have heard that the on board sound on the Abit mbo is problematic.
True or False?

Thanks for the help

Both mobos have front-panel connections, as far as I know.
Go for the Abit here. I've heard the onboard on the Asus; I don't know if it's problematic, but it's pretty bad.

I haven't updated the list for any of the newer sockets yet. They're still a little new to gauge which are good/bad.

The Abit NF7 boards have had some onboard sound issues that I know of.

Bummer, I have decided to go with the 939 socket stuff instead of 754 and everything I want to order from NewEgg to finish this thing is in stock
EXCEPT
The Abit mbo (AV8)

Looking at the "Soltec" SL-K8TPro-939" http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduc...180-064&depa=1

Fair price, nice specs, pretty good reviews.

What are the opinions on this one instead of the Abit.

Thanks

This is starting to branch off into its own subject.

Jim Baxter, I'd suggest that you start a new thread in the motherboard forum so as to get more input on your question.

In the long run, socket 939 is the better deal, since 754 is pretty much locked in the way of upgrades. But, it is fine for a budget build.

Abit is a much more reliable make than Soltec.

Checkmate377, welcome to PC Mech. You'll get better results starting your own thread than posting at the end of one that is 6 months old.

Hello to all.
My first post. I see that you are serious about maintaining a friendly community site, and I definitely appreciate that--especially since I will undoubtedly be asking some duh!-type questions regarding my first build shortly. Thanks.

Well, a good way to start is going through the FAQ and maybe searching for old threads relevant to your question. That way you can more easily eliminate the 'duh!' factor...
Hope to see you around,

I have just purchased a jetway 939 gt sli g motherboard.
I take it that i cannot use ddr2 memory and that a
HP pc3200 1gb 184 pin config would be fine ???
