Quick question:
The last zip file was from 04...is it still relevant? I'm working on a new build and about to choose a CPU and motherboard. But there's stuff like DDR2 and dual-cores and stuff now so I was just wondering if the spreadsheet is still useful. |

Hi people,
Is it just me who's finding probs with opening the zip files? I downloaded the three of them to my HD however when I try to open them I am being prompted that the file is invalid or corrupt. |

I guess it isn't me. I have tried by downloading all three to my hard drive several times and using WinZip to unzip. No go it said the files were invalid or corrupt. I then used SystemSuite Version 6 to unzip them. It reported that they were unzipped but empty!!!!! Is there a different source for these files?

I'm also having problems opening the zip file. "Corrupted" or "Empty"
I guess I don't really know what it is I'm missing but It thought it looked to be interesting to me, and others. Thanks, MiceElf |

Direct link to the latest:
http://forum.pcmech.com/attachment.p...5&d=1099082002 This is a standard zip file, inside the archive is an Excel file. It just downloaded, unzipped, and opened in Excel just fine for me. Note that the info in there is pretty stale. |

which one motherboard would be better
ECS P4M800PRO-M-V2.0 (sounds, looks, and seems better) or Intel D102GGC2 (my current one, no oc'ing cappabilities except through software) I know there both not the best, but which one would be a better choice? as they both are good but bad. which eaquals ok lol. |

ECS boards aren't good quality, Intel boards are. I wouldn't choose an ECS over an Intel, regardless of the features it offers.
Pilot, I notice you've started quite a few threads on various issues recently. If you're planning on an upgrade with a new motherboard, it would make sense if you start a new thread and keep every question you have in regards to it in that one thread. You'll get the best advice this way. From your above post, all I can advise you on is quality - I've no idea what you're wanting to do with this upgrade. FK

The D102GGC2 has an ATI chipset - it's not the same quality as a real Intel board with an Intel chipset. It's a farmed out 3rd party price leader. The ECS is total junk - it's ECS and it has a Via chipset.

Hi guys,
I'm ejq29, newbie in PC Mech. Got any comments on MSI motherboards? Can you compare ASUS boards with MSI boards so I can have an idea what to use? Thanks! ejq29

I personally wouldn't have a problem building a system with an MSI board. But round about 2002 (I think), MSI boards went through a period of quality control problems; the capacitors on their boards were leaking and causing system failure. This was a fault of the manufacturer of the capacitors, and not MSI, but bad press sticks around in the computer world.
ASUS, on the other hand, have made top quality motherboards for a long time now. Even if they are a few more $ than an MSI equivalent, I'd spend those few more $ on such an important component. |

Hi Freakitchen,
Thanks for the information! Do you think MSI still has the same problem on their boards? Thanks again! ejq29 |

No, I've not heard of any recurring problems with MSI boards for a while now. If I had the opportunity to buy an ASUS board, then I would, but I'd put MSI in the next 'tier' of quality, along with Gigabyte.

I built a few pc's with MSI socket 754 mobo's early last year and had no trouble with them. They continue to run trouble free for my customers using Sempron cpu's.

Hi, I realize that most ppl are getting problems with opening the zip files attached in these threads (I really don't know why that is happening). I found that using a different zip program can open them though. It's called http://www.7-zip.org/. Hope it works for you all too.
