Quick Question
Hi, i have just got some thermal paste. I was wondering if you apply it to the heatsink, and how much do you use, is it just an area the same as the thermal pad if you had one? A thick layer or just a little bit?
thanks |

Very thin layer. You are just filling in the fine gaps. Most find it easier to apply to heatsink since the excess can be removed easily. If done to CPU core and not carefull you can spread iit accross the bridges if using a AMD.
Personally I put just a dab on the CPU, use a credit card to spread evenly, install and apply the heatsink. Chas

You'll want to put a little on both the heatsink and CPU core.
Here's what I do...I wrap my index finger with plastic food wrap. I then put a really small amount of Arctic Silver on the wrap and then rub it onto the heatsink in the area the CPU core will contact. I then rub the CPU core with whatever is left on the wrap. When I'm done, both surfaces have a really thin layer of Arctic Silver on them. Cricket

naw, thats not bad. Thermal paste isnt conductive, so you dont have to worry about it messing with your processor. If you get it somewhere where it prhobits contact (like the CPU pins) thats a problem, because it will stop the electricity from flowing between the cpu and the mobo.

Its a generic brand called Fanner? It does contain 10% silver it says. Everything seems to be working ok with it all.
