Trying to help some friends with a printer installation in W2000PRO (5.00.2195, No Service Packs).
Installed a Canon BJC-620 printer through the Add Printer option. Whichever printer is installed works fine, however, when the PC is shut down, the printer does not show up again next time the PC is started. The printer has to be reinstalled again. Tried installing W98/Wme drivers, but they do not install. W2000PRO has the BJC-620 available in its list of printers for which it has innate drivers. The Canon website offers some guidance for NT, but that just leads to using the Add Printer and innate drivers. Any ideas of how to keep the printer from vanishing every time the PC is shut down? Thanks for the help. |

Is the printer USB or parallel?

Thanks for the reply.
The printer is conected to a parallel port, and the port is working fine. |

First thing you need to do is install Service Pack 4. Win2000 with no service packs had a lot of bugs.
Then uninstall the printer and reboot. Go into the bios and make sure the parallel port is set to EPP or ECP. Save and exit and start Windows, log into an account with admin privileges. If plug and play doesn't automatically find the printer and start the wizard, run the add printer wizard and see if it detects. If it doesn't detect, add it manually again, see where you are at. |

Thanks for the info.
Will give it a whirl. If it does not work, will tell them to get a new printer. |
