Yeah they are. Prescotts are the first of the bunch to come out....starting in 478 pins, then the Tejas will be the LGA775 or what not.....that's what I have heard. Do a search in google.

So if Prescott is a 478 pins that means I could upgrade! well at least just the cpu, I have a Asus p4s800 mobo.

No, you won't be able to upgrade unless your motherboard supports the 478 pin Prescott processor. And only the early Prescott's will be 478 pin processors, the 3.8GHz and faster Prescott's will use the new LGA775 Socket.

The 478 pin Prescotts are due next month...the LGA775 processors should start showing up by the 3rd or 4th quarter of this year.

The top models will have 1mb cache. There are going to be some with 512k and 533fsb rather than 800. Why they'd take a step back in technology is anyone's guess. It'd be best to pass on 775 until sometime in 2005 unless you have a bundle to spend...it's going to pack BTX, PCI-X, and possibly DDRII along with it.

Stop! you cant simply put a presscott in a mobo because it supports socket 478. The presscott uses more VRM then the regular P4s and the P4EE. You need to have a mobo that does support the extra VRM. If you dont you could fry a Processor or the Mobo. Go to intel.com for more info on the Prescott.
