Maxtor 7200 40GB

I just got this new hard drive in Sept and I am having loads of trouble not sure if its the hard drive or the programs I use but I have to scan for errors all the time I just get it scanned than when my computer restarts it says it has lots of errors I have done both the standard and the thorough the standard it does find errors but not in the thorough.
The thorough one takes so long and my computer won`t start automatically unless I do this.
Have been by passing it but next time restart same thing. Could someone explain why I get so many errors and what it is from. thanks

What O/S are you running?

Try downloading and running adaware and spybot on your machine. If you don't have any AV protection, you should download AVG and run a virus scan.

Go to Maxtor's support site and download Powermax. Use this to run diagnostics on the drive.
