Here is a post from another BBS. Hopefully someone can help me!!! I uninstalled Dial Up Networking to try to fix this problem, and, now, Win98SE won't give the option to reinstall it!! UGHH... I really don't want to do a Windows reinstall.
ME: Ok, let me preface this with the fact that I have tried everything under the sun to get my modem(s) working. Initially, I had a LT Winmodem working fine. I decided to try out an external Creative Labs Blaster. I went ahead and installed with the other modem installed which was probably a faux pas, but anyway... I couldn't get the dang CL modem to work, so I went ahead and removed the LT Winmodem and its drivers. Finally, I got the CL modem to dial, but after the handshake, it will not get through the password phase @ msn. So... after checking every possible setting that I could (Networking, DUN, and modem settings), I removed the modem and tried to reinstall my Winmodem. Now, the Winmodem will complete the handshake, but, once connected, I cannot access any webpages. It seems that I can upload, but not download information. I know it's not a hardware problem, because I installed the Winmodem with success on my other box. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated!! UGH! Ozrenn: So you are saying there IS data flow ?.. reinstall comms and dun - check your server types... should fix it no dramas Me: Yes, there is minimal data flow downstream and normal dataflow upstream. I'll try your suggestions. Me: OK.. I uninstalled Dial-Up-Networking, went back to install it from Control Panel--->Add/Remove Programs--->Windows Setup-------->Communications and, now, it only shows 3 options there, Microsoft Chat, HyperTerminal, and the Phone Dialer... NOTHING ELSE!! ARGGHHH! Anyone run into this problem before? BTW, I'm using Win98SE. PLEASE HELP ME!!! ![]() |

In another bbs, I asked if there was no option in Communications to even check dial up networking; you said there wasn't. I liked the next post about submitting your setup to Ripley's Believe it or Not
Seriously, you hit something I've never seen. Someone here may have a clue, but it should reside on your cd or in cabs, naturally. Transporting the option is something else, short of some semi-serious finagling. How about restoring your last good registry/boot-up?

Open Networking in control panel. Remove ALL networking components.
REstart into Safe Mode. Open Device manager, remove the modem(s) and com ports. Restart, install modem. Go to Start > Run > and type in: inetwiz Run it, it will reinstall DUN and make a new connection. |

Well, kiss my grits. I thought DUN had to be checked in Windows setup (installed) in order to use it. What you're saying, boot, is the inetwiz places it here. He's saying the option doesn't exist. Oh well...

Well, I ended up doing it the hard way and replaced the necessary files via DOS. Then, I got the option to reinstall DUN in Contol Panel ---> Add/Remove ----> Windows Setup; however, this did not fix my problem. I restored the registry that was a couple days old, and, now, everything works like gem.

I've screwed up MSN as well, the secret to restoring it is on the Windows disk.
MSN restore. However it's abbreveated msn restr or something along those lines. Search the disk and you'll find it. That way you'll be set for the next time!
