more ram freezes comp?

I have a P4P800-Deluxe mobo that i built myself with Corsair 512DDR PC3200 ram in 1 slot. I just got a Corsair 256DDR PC3200 in the mail that I order and when I try to put it in any of the 3 slots (ive tried them all) my comp freezes at the startup screen. Any suggestions?

That can sometimes happen when you have different memory modules. They can sometimes cause stability issues. Or it may just be a bad stick. Try starting up your system with just that one stick, if it boots, you know its not a defective stick.

The ram is probably not compatible.

That's what I'm thinking. Possibly a different density.

lol, as i said in the post, they where both Corsair DDR PC3200. The 512 alone works fine, but with the 256 it freezes, so its prolly defectivez0rs eh?

Have you tried the 256 by itself?
Have you tried the 512 in slot 0/1 and the 256 in slot 2?
Check the memory timings and try them at cas 3 setting and see if they work.

Both sticks are the same speed (400MHz), but one is 512MB, while the other is 256MB. Sometimes this can cause problems, but you never know.

Noldster, how did you solve the problme? This will let other people who may have the same/similar problem solve it.

A lot of times its the simple things that cause a problem. Good job figuring it out .
