unable to stop some services
Hello. I am unable to stop some services. I am using less and less of the pc. But when I came back to it, I was unable to stop some services. The biggest one is 'Remote Registry Service' I know this one I really want to stop. Yet when I try to stop that or disable it freezes.
How can I fix this? Virus scanner or ad-aware couldn't find anything. Both up to date. Is ther a registry fix? |

Download/Install/Run XP Anti-Spy from the link below. It will give you the option of disabling all the services that are not needed in XP and tell you what each is.
http://www.xpantispy.org/ There is also a listing at Black Vipers website below that tells you about each service and if you can shut it down. http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm |

EDIT: I just re-read. It is a service that I have shut off before. And remote registry manipulation is something I have shut off before.
-------- And I am running W2K SP4. I have run Norton Antivirus and Ad-Aware 6 several times. I am at a loss what to do. This is a bare minimun PC and I know everything in the Task Manager is not suspicious. Was it possible someone came and used it and installed something that doesn't show up in usual ways? Is there a way to make by services.msc edittable again? Last edited by Jade; 02-07-2004 at 12:37 PM. |

Is there a way to restore services to default state or default anything?
