programs con't find disk
recently, I tried listening to a cd on my cd-rw drive and windows media player said "please insert a disk" even though there was a disk in the drive. I tried putting the disk in the dvd-rom drive and the same thing happened.
When I try playing games that require the disk, they say to insert game disk even though the disk is inserted. I've tried both cd-r and original disks with the same results. In the properties both drives say there are no conflicts and the drives are working properly. Both are Lite-on drives and I'm using Windows xp. When I look in windows explorer, both drives show up and read the files on both disks, but when I click on a file, the programs still think there is no disk in the drive. No drivers have been added or updated and I've made no drastic or semi-drastic changes to my system at or around the time of the problems. Any possible solutions? Thanks |

Tell us about the not so semi drastic changes please - things like this just don't "happen" unless a drive goes bad.
Try disconnecting one drive at a time to rule that out, one bad drive *can* affect the other one across the IDE cable. |

I just meant that I haven't done anything outside of the usual disk cleanup, defrag, type things. I haven't touched the registry or deleted programs that might affect the drives or updated drivers or anything like that. I'll give your advice a try and see what happens. Also, I loaded a program last night and it read the cd correctly and loaded everything fine. |
