This Dvd player does not recognize certain Dvd's. I have watch several movies without any problems. When I try certain Dvd's, the OS does not recognize the CD. Error message is no disc in drive. I can insert a different movie Dvd and it will play, so I do not think it is the player nor the OS. The OS is XP Pro.
The Dvd player is CRX300a cd burner/dvd-rom player. I have uninstalled the software and reinstalled it, same problem. No mention of this problem on the Sony site except the same problem existed with Windows 2000 OS, but their latest software release supposedly corrected the problem. Is anyone aware or experienced the same problems with this player or others? Is it the encoding software used by certain Dvd Mnfg.? Any comments would be appreciateted. Jim |

Have you checked to see if there are any updated drivers for it?

Yes, I have load the same but still incur the same problem.
I have encountered a similar error message when trying to read a r/w data cd that was burnt with different software. My thought is that if the technologies are different with burning the data on the cd that certain lasers may not be able to read the data burnt due to differences with respect to how the data is recorded by the hardware/software. This is over my head, to understanding the burning process. |

That's a bit over my head also, but what you're saying makes sense. I'm sure there are people here that can give you a little better input than I.

Have you checked Windows Update for any patches? I've seen some there pertaining to DVD/media playback problems.

JBan,
The best thing to do is RMA it. I had the same problem. I watched two DVD's and the next day nothing. It wouldn't recognize a DVD or a data disk. There is a program from SONY called Drive Check. It will do a check of the drive. You will need a blank disk when you use it and it will ask for one. After it is finished, IF it finishes it will allow you to send the results to SONY. They will get back to you usually in an e-mail. Then all you have to do is call then ( 800 ) number and they will give you a RMA number and give you an address to send the drive. I had to RMA 2 of the same CRX300A drives till I got one that would keep working. There aren't any driver updates for the drive, all he can do is RMA it. And if it is less than 30 days you should also be able to return it to where you got it, but the best thing to do is RMA it back to SONY. |
