hd installation problem
Ok the problem is I bought a 30GB Western Digital HD about 2 years back and installed it on my old computer. My parents purchased a laptop for my sister because she was using my old computer. I removed the 30GB HD and attempted to install it on my new computer (not my sisters laptop, Im not an idiot). I formated the hd to be NFTS not FAT32 a while back, now the installation utilities will not recognize the new hard drive because of its format. None of the two computers will read it anymore.
What can i do to fix this? Please i dont want to pay some other idiot to mess with my computer. |

Welcome to PCMech, Lego
![]() The only way to revert back to FAT32 is to use the diagnostic tools' zero fill tool on the drive. Then you would have to partition and format. What are you trying to do to it?

If you have a computer with Windows XP installed, just install your old drive in the slave postition on the 80 wire cable with the jumpers set to cable select (cs). Then select My Computer, right click on the drive in question (XP should see it just fine) and click format. You'll be given an option to format to Fat32. Do that, remove it and install in the other system.

Let's back up a bit - what installation utilities are you trying to use and why? If you used the utility to install it on the old computer and it installed EZ-Bios, and you are trying to put it in a new computer that has a compliant bios, you have to remove the EZ-Bios overlay. Easiest thing to do is zero fill it with the utility - note that this will DELETE EVERYTHING.

LMFAO
Another glaring example of my stupidity!!! turns out i had the wrong hd. It only occured to me to read the label where it says FUJITSU PIECE OF **** MPC3064AT. Ok now this baby is running but XP is not seeing the HD. Defore i could only go into mode on DOS "the drunken abusive bastard father of windows". |

If that drive has been zero-filled and not yet partitioned, Windows will not see it. Right click on My Computer and select Manage. Once you're in Computer Management, you can select Disk Management and take care of it from there.
