Another Over Clocking Question
After buying a better heatsink and fan for my CPU, I decided to give over clocking a try. Now in my bio settings the default settings for my Athlon XP 2400/266 is Cpu External Freq 133 MHZ, Cpu Frequency Multiple 6.5. Cpu interface Optimal, and Cpu Vcore 1.650V.
Now I changed my CPU External Freq to 200 MHZ Cpu Freguency to 7.5, CPU interface Agressive and CPU Vcore to 7.5. My question is how come now my system reads my XP as a 1.3 GHZ when default it is 2.0GHZ. Is the idea behind changing the settings to make it go faster not slower. What am I doing wrong? Thanks |

your motherboard doesnt recognise the full range of multipliers. by full range, im talking about the 5x through 22.5x. yours only recognises the upper range of multis (13x-22.5x) because your chip has a default multiplier of 15. the only boards that recognise all multis are the abit, soltek, and DFI boards. dont worry though, youre not stuck, there are various pin mods you can do so you can use the low range multis (5x-12.5x). the high range multis will only get you clock speed....FSB is the name of the game when it comes to OCing. you may need to modify your CPU socket in order to get the full range of multis. its not a hard mod to perform, it involves bridging some of the socket holes with very fine copper wire, no soldering involved.

you can also buy small chips that fit over the CPU pins that unlock the full multi spectrum, i cant remember the name of them, but they look a lot like SIM cards for mobile phones

I flashed by bio recently and if I set my CPU External Freg to user define it goes from 100mhz to 300mhz and the CPU Multiple all the way to 14x.
I have my system set to aggressive so my CPU External Frequ is set to 200MHZ Multiple set to 10x. When I go to my PC it show me at 2.0 GHZ which is my normal speed anyway. I downloaded PCMark and it shows 2005GHZ as current speed. I'm doing this for fun to see how far I can push my system. If it gets too hot naturally I will set it back down a bit. Any advice for a good OC setting |

I got my 2.0GHZ to now read 2.10GHZ. I set my FSB to 200 MHZ and my multiplier to 10X. My memory Frequency is at 100%. Now I will let it run all night and see if it stays stable or not.

I purchased one at Best Buy made by Antec. It only cost $20. I did a PCmark test and it shows 2105GHZ and 200 mhz FSB.
I quess that is good. |
