Looks like a champ! I'm assuming those Raptors will be setup as a RAID, but why so much HDD space? Of course I'm not saying that you shouldn't get it, I'm just wondering because I know I could never use all that space myself (not in the near future, anyway).

This computer is going to hold everything you can think of. Tons of apps, games, docs, pics, mp3s, tweaks, and lots and lots of downloads. 200GB will hold me off for a while. The Raptors will be set up in RAID 0 array. I did consider a RAID 1 array but i need all the space i can get. Thanks for the suggestion though. More welcome.

What about a floppy? For $6.00 or $7.00 you will have it if you ever need it.

Geez, that's why I thought I saw this thread before...

Hey bigandy, you missed one...http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...threadid=89799, so that makes this the fifth thread about the same thing. What's up with that?

So I did Cricket.

Guess I thought it might have been the same one as one of the others

Jonney, I suggest you take the time to read through this thread. And a reading of the FAQ might not hurt either.

Looks like a good setup. I also have a MSI mobo and like it alot but is that VIA chipset good for AMD's? I know VIA chipsets are not so good with pentiums, but im not very familar with the new 64-bit AMD's and their chipsets. Also the PCX video cards are on the horizon, you might want to hold out for them or look into that as an option if you want to have the UGC.

jonney3491: You really should stick to one thread regarding this "UGC" build...I mean starting 5 threads about the same thing is going a little overboard, you know.

I keep starting them because once they get to the 3rd page or so i dont get any more replies and I want all the suggestions i can get i am sorry if I annoyed or hurt any one by doing this. First off I will be purchasing a floppy drive. Second the VIA K8T800 chipset has been chosen by over a dozen of PC mags and internet sites as the best Chipset for the AMD Athlon 64 right now. Third I will try to wait for ATI and nVidia to release their new chipsets this spring. Thanks for the suggestions. More welcome.

What you can do next time your thread starts to get less replies is to post a message to the thread, like "Anyone got any other suggestions?". This will bring the thread back up to the top of the forum and maybe you'll get more responses. And you should make note of any changes to your parts selection so we can see how everything is evolving.

If that's the case, make note of it in the first post so people will know what you're doing.

Don't believe everything you read in reviews. The motherboards submitted for review many times are not production models but very "tweaked out" engineering samples that the manufacturer provides just to get the glowing reviews. It's always better to see what the end users really think of a motherboard.

If you want this build to run nice and stable, it's better to wait for the chipsets to mature a bit. The first incarnations aren't always stable and it sometimes takes a few revisions to get the kinks out. Just because something is new doesn't mean it's good.

CRASH TFT moniter

Jimmy White metion something about a Samsung TFT moniter. I found one that would fit in my budgetHere is the Link . I was wondering if this is the one Jimmy White was talkin about. The catch is that i will not be able to have a DVD burner when i first finish it. I thought that since this is a gaming machine, a DVD burner is not a necessity. I will take out the DVD burner so i can get a high end miniter. More moniter and hardware suggestions welcome.

I just built a computer with a 17" Samsung TFT (174v) for a friend and got to play with this monitor for a few days. It's nice but I wouldn't want one. I still think CRT's have better image quality.

Hi again. I have a product change. I will be getting the ATI brand 9800XT instead of the Saphire brand. I am getting different RAM also. It is called the Corsair XMS Extreme Speedt Series RAM 1GB. I will also be adding the Coolermaster AerogateII after i drill about 8more holes in my case so i can have about 2 more fans. I will overclock this computer as much as my cooling will allow. More suggestions welcome.

Keep in mind with RAID, it uses two hard drives, so if you have 2 hard drives with 80GB each, you will only be able to use one 80GB.

I would definately get a better CRT monitor, not like you don't have the money.

edit* Mark, depends on what RAID you use remember.

What speed of RAM are you getting? For overclocking the AMD64, you will need at least PC3500.

If you don't want to get the LCD monitor than I would get THIS Samsung monitor. If you want 19in than THIS is excellent.

I am lookin at the other moniters to find a better one. I was planning on getting a cheap one now and then once i save up enough i will get a Sony F520. But it is the best moniter I have seen to date. Yes it is $1200. But once youve seen this thing in action youll wonder why that craptacular moniter is sitting at home while this baby is being put to the test. I dont have a direct link to the site. Sorry.

I was unaware that you had to have overclocking memory to overclock you CPU so I am getting Corsair XMS Speed Series PC-3700 RAM 1GB. More suggestions are welcome.
