Hi all,
I've got a silly yet frustrating printer driver problem with an HP photosmart P1000. In an upgrade to a new PC on XP the original printer driver disc was out of date so I downloaded the new one and installed the printer from that but every time a start up the PC it pops up the hardware wizard and says there is a new printer attached. It is using the LPT1 port. I tried following the hardware wizard and also ...-> Start/..Control Panel/...Printers&Faxes/...Add New. Still getting the same problem, any thoughts? Thanks in advance. |

Did you install the driver with the printer disconnected from the system?

Yeah, tried it first disconnected, didn't work so I started up the PC with it connected to see if it would recognise it, it did and it popped up the hardware wizard. I can install the driver and have it running fine then shut down, restart and new hardware wizard pops up.
If that ain't a clear description let me know, not entirely sure I understand it when reading it back. Cheers. |

You need to disconnect the printer, fully uninstall the driver, reboot the computer, reinstall the driver, then shut down and reconnect the printer. If this still doesn't take care of it, I'd suggest you contact HP support.
