The beeps you hear are telling you what the problem is. Look on the web page of the BIOS maker.
You find things like "Two short and one long beeps equal problem with X" |

Try removing and reseating the video card, make sure there is no dust or any obstructions which can cause bad contact, make sure the conacts on the bottom of the card are clean. After this, reseat the graphics card making sure that it is fully seated, and if you motherboard has any sort of retention locking mechanism making sure it is locked on properly. After this if the problem persists, then you may have a defective Video card. try with a know working card..and if that doesn't work, please tell us how you get on

Have you tried reseating all your cards (video, RAM, etc...) and checking all the power connections? Cricket

The system was overclocked? That's something you should have mentioned in your first post. Depending on how high you took the system up, the problem could have been directly related to the overclocking. Were the AGP and PCI buses locked or did they go up along with the FSB speed? How high did you go?

So, it's running fine now?
One thing I notice is you're using Kingston ValueRAM, which is good RAM but it doesn't overclock well. You can take it up a little, but if you really want to overclock you're going to have to get much better RAM. Kingston HyperX, Corsair XMS, Mushkin or Geil RAM would make a big difference in your overclocking attempts. And is there any way to up the motherboard FSB by small steps instead of going from 166MHz straight to 200MHz? If there is, take the speed up by a few megahertz at a time until the system gets unstable and then back it down. 166MHz to 200MHz is a big jump. Oh yeah, overclocking can cause data corruption and if it's real bad, you're looking at a reformat and reinstall of the OS and all your drivers and programs. Cricket

its been running fine for almost 1 day. the strange thing was that the system did not show any signs of unstability even when i ran prime95 and the vcore is at stock settings. i had the valueram for only $50 and i will be getting better ram.
You said overclocking will cause data corruption, will this happen if the system is stable? how long should i run prime95 to ensure that the system is stable? thanks, you have been helpful. |
