Hey'all,
Very simple question, but I don't know the answer! I bought a couple of 80mm Antec SmartCools to put in my big empty Chieftec Full-Tower. The instructions aren't very clear, but I think they both need to be connected straight to a 12v supply (the PSU, I presume) and not the motherboard. The fans have a clever widdgemmie on them though, that seems to allow you to plug one four-pin connector into the back of the other one. Should I connect them like this and then to the PSU (which hasn't arrived yet ) or..... what?I have a feeling this is a total muppet question, but there's some stuff that the books and How-Tos don't include! The PSU is (going to be...) a Silenx 520W, which Cricket informed me is a tweaked and rebadged Fortron Source. Ta, Corax |

You can hook them using the molex connectors from power supply. You can also hook the to the mobo if they also came with the small 3 pin connector and your mobo supports chassis fans.
I prefer this method because my mobo monitor program can alert me if one quits or slows down below predetermined level. Chas

The blurb with the fans says not to power them via the m'board, although they do need to be hooked up somewhere as they are temperature responsive...
What I mean about the connections would look something like this: [][][][]------------FAN2 [][][][]------------FAN1 . .PSU. . If that makes any sense....ie: the 4-pin for Fan 2 plugs into the back of the 4-pin for Fan 1, which plugs into the PSU... Is that right? Last edited by Corax; 03-09-2004 at 07:52 AM. |

Yes, you can daisy chain a bunch of fans together if you have to. I've put 4 80mm fans onto one power lead from a 300 watt power supply with no problems. I don't think I would put more though.

Thanks Cricket (yet again...)
Something that you either know or you don't, I suppose, although if I had even a basic understanding of electronics that might help Steep learning curve this.... perservering. CoraX
