Question first build - BIOS issues

Hello all. I am stuck on my first build and I'm hoping that I am just missing something obvious. I simply cannot see anything on the screen! I have Phoenix BIOS, and I get the one-beep POST, so I am assuming that BIOS is in fact running. The hard drive is running and the fans are running as well, and I took the CPU fan off briefly to test that it got nice and hot. I got a nice video card (ATI All-In-Wonder 7500), and I thought the problem might be that it doesn't have a bare bones driver. So, I then got a cheapie card to test that theory and still no luck. I also borrowed a friend's monitor, and tried the two monitors and the two cards in all combinations - still nothing. My monitor is a TFT, and when I unplug it from either of the cards, I get a "No Signal" screen. (My friend's monitor doesn't do that, but it's older.) I cannot think of anything but that the AGP slot is defective somehow. I do have an ECS board, and I've heard that those aren't the best. (But aw man it was cheap!) Is there something really basic that I'm missing? Or am I going to have to get a freaking new motherboard? Thanks a lot for any replies!

Bless your heart, Nuclear, for getting back to me so fast. I wouldn't have found this thread otherwise. I will try this tonight and check this thread again in the morning. Thanks for the welcome, and good luck to meeeeeeeee

Well I followed the instructions in the thread that Nuclear posted for bare-bones startup, and still nothing. In a way, it's nice to know that this is beyond me now. But I am still going to have to brave Fry's today. Any other ideas?
