Persistent Hangs on Win98SE Computer

I have heard something to the effect that there is a parameter which, if set higher than the memory chip speed, can cause persistent, intermittent failures (blue screen-show's over type).

What's this about and how can I check into it. I am doing this for a friend who runs a non-profit. I replaced the 32k in the machine with a 128k chip I bought at CompUSA months ago (too long ago to go back to them). I have checked for viruses and have run the VXD fix, but to no avail.

Thanks.

Home built or store bought name brand computer?

What are the specs?

If you're getting any error messages, what do they say exactly?

Have you tested the new RAM? Do a search for DocMemory or Memtest86, down load it, put it on a bootable floppy and then test the RAM 1 stick at a time.
