thermaltake silentboost
i've been considering which heatsink to get for a mobile athlon XP 2500 for a while..
the thermaltake silentboost seems quite good; quiet, cheap, and unlikely to have compatibility promlems with fitting on my motherboard. so i'm wondering about the overclocking room one of these could give me? what overclocks have people got/ heard about with one of these? the voltage i guess is the more important part as its this that gives the heat right?. also, what is the difference between the ball bearing version and the "Hydro Wave Bearing" version .. which is best? another thing i just found is this ('silent cat 9cm') .. please check it out.. its a 92mm fan like one on a silentboost, with a 92>80mm adaptor, and it pushes a respectable 52.24CFM, for only 21dBA.. which is approaching double the air pushed of the silentboost, and at the *same* sound level apparently. would i be able to take the 80mm fan off the silentboost and use it as a case fan, and then use the 92mm fan (With adaptor) on the silentboost? i imagine this would give me siginficantly more room for overclocking or lower temps, at the same noise level also i'd think the 92-80mm adaptor would act as a spacer/duct somewhat, eliminating the dead spot somewhat. also the extra 92mm fan says if has '1 Ball 1 Sleeve' bearing.. i've never seen a fan with both before whats this about? |

With a 2500+, any decent HSF combo should get you to 3200+ (2.2GHz), without a hitch.

yewa well i want ideally to go higher than that being as its a mobile
(they can clock from 2500mhz to 2700 if u get a good one.. but they need lower voltages than a regular barton so it wouldn't be as hot at the same speed)also does anyone know where to get these fans i mentioned? i can't see to find them and there is a 'sellers' list on thermaltake's website but it lists a million places and they dont all have everything. |

perhaps u need to learn how to use google more effectively, all those sites contained all of the words thermaltake silent cat 92mm and fan, thermaltake - from anything the sell silent - well they have a lot of 'silent' products, like the 'silentboost' cat - from network cables eg Cat 5 and 92mm and fan can come from any 92mm fan or powersupply with one. so all those sites could have been describing full systems for sale, or a page with many different computer products for sale on, or even a pc forum like this which could contain all those words in people's signatures. anyway this discussion is over (with Brown Hornet) FLG; hmm yea i will email them (well use the contact thing on their site) but god knows if they will reply before the next ice age.. Brown Hornet; i didn't want anyone to do any work finding one for me.. the main point of this thread was to find out how the silentboost and silent cat fans performed with regards to overclocking etc. (shame this thread didn't turn out like that eh) from people who had used it, and weather i could attach the silent cat to a silentboost.
i asked if anyone knew where to get the silent cat fans as an afterthought, as i'd looked at newegg, directron etc and couldn't find them, but i didn't expect anyone who didn't know already to go searching for them on my behalf. thanks for trying to help anyway... and yea i'd given up on the thread a long time ago really (other than flg i guess - thanks) |
